My first EXPERIENCES in Bio
Practically the first activate we participated with on Biology was the Zoom activate. When I was handed the Zoom activity I was confronted with a stormy swirl of white, blue and green contained in a circle that was cut in half by the end of my paper framed by a darkness. It was very abstract looking at first but as I forced my brain to make connections between what I saw and what I have seen all around me in all my seventy years. I found that it looked like the earth viewed from outer space. Space for some reason had no brilliant scatter of stars and the familiar body of earth that in my mind had names and states were nowhere to seen. However it was earth an abstract and weird version of it but still earth still home.
I was told that I couldn’t show anyone my swirl earth depiction but I had to find others that had similar or were connected to my photo. Therefor I need to use words to show others and so did they. By the end of the activity with everyone working together (and a little cheating) as a class we lined up our photos on the floor. When we revealed all the photos we saw something similar to a domino affect a zooming in from earth in outer space to tiny details on earth. It was a really cool activity even though I was upset but the fact that we didn’t complete it on the first try but I learned how to express what I saw to other using incredibly detailed words. It was my first biology class so I was expecting something different, then again it was HTH so it was bound to get weird sometimes.
My observation skills have been shaped to a point and have affected my abilities as drawer. I have learned how to explore the complexity that is the human body down to a molecular level. Consuming information through research or observation, digesting it by breaking it down so it is easier to understand. Adsorbing it by seeing and connecting to different systems knowing how it all works together to maintain homeostasis. Growing out of the state of mind that organs are just like their picture. Allowing me to understand the bigger picture within me.
